Bourton Rovers 1 - 2 Cam Bulldogs
Rovers poor start to the season continued with another home defeat , this time against Cam.
Both teams started brightly but after 10 minutes a Cam player broke his ankle and the game was delayed for an hour while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
When the game restarted Bourton were slow out the blocks and the visitors took full advantage by scoring 2 goals in the space of 5 minutes, the first was a own goal when Andrew Herbert deflected a cross into his own net and the second was gifted when the home teams defence went to sleep and the Cam striker had all the time in the world to put the ball into the net leaving home keeper Kevin Goodwill with no chance.
Bourton started the second half a bit more sprightly but couldn't break down the Cam defence and it was the visitors who kept creating the better chances on the counter attack but Goodwill kept rovers in the game. Bourton finally pulled a goal back on 70 minutes when Graham Newhook found himself clean through, his shot was parried out to Matt Winter who unselfishly chipped the ball to Mark Gainford who headed into a empty net from 3 yards out. It was all Bourton now and Gainford nearly levelled when his shot from 15 yards was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the visitors number 1.
Keelan Gilbert tested the keeper on a couple of occasions but to no avail and Bourton's luck was summed up with the last action of the match when Carlos Stevens chip into the box found Winter whose back header from 10 yards left the keeper stranded only too see the ball hit the inside of the post and roll along the line to safety and leave Bourton with another pointless afternoon.
Next week Rovers travel to fellow
strugglers FC Star.
