First XI Match Reports
Saturday, 14th April 2007 ~ Northern Senior League
Bourton Rovers 2-5 Tuffley Rovers
Bourton entertained champions elect Tuffley on Saturday, it was Rovers third game in the space of 5 days and in the end it showed.
The first half was evenly matched with none of the teams having a serious effort on goal until the 40th minute when a long free kick played into the Bourton area was flicked on and fell to the Tuffley left back who fire home from 3 yards to give the visitors the interval lead.
Rovers started the second half poorly and were soon 2 down when a cross into the box found the Tuffley strikers head who made no mistake from 6 yards out and 5 minutes later the same player headed home number 3 after some slack marking by Rovers. Mark Payne had Rovers 1st attempt on goal after 65 minutes when a mix up in the Visitors defence left him clean through on goal but he blazed over and Tuffley went straight up the other end and made it 4-0 after a mix up in the Rovers defence.
Bourton introduced Chris Mills and his pace had the Tuffley defence all over the place and it was him who got the villagers 1st goal when Matt Winter flicked the ball on to Anders Harvey whose shot was parried by the keeper and Mills smashed the ball home for his 4th goal of the season. Rovers got a second goal with 10 minutes left when Mills had a shot well saved by the keeper and the rebound fell to Winter who kept his cool and headed home from 12 yards out for his 24th of the season.
With Rovers dead on their legs now and the heat getting to them as well Tuffley wrapped the game up with the last kick off the game after another mix up in the Rovers box and this time Benny Acock put the ball in his own net and give Tuffley their 5th goal of the afternoon and Rovers 3rd own goal in 4 matches and Bourton winless for 6 matches.
On the Tuesday before Rovers travelled to Cam Bulldogs and lost 4-1 with Matt Winter scoring the visitors goal in a game they dominated and on the Thursday they were on the road again this time at rivals Cheltenham Civil Service and Winter was again on the mark with a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw in a game they should of won.
This week Bourton's gruelling campaign takes them to Bishops Cleeve on Tuesday and they entertain Longlevens on Saturday.
