First XI Match Reports
Saturday, 20th January 2007 ~ Northern Senior League
Bourton played their first league match of the year and in the end won convincingly and moved up to fifth in the table.
Stuart Hughes was back in the side in place of captain Ben Acock who had other commitments and Kevin Hunt came in for Keelan Gilbert who was rested.
Bourton started the better of the two teams and went close early on when Chris Mills shot wide when he should of scored, Hunt shot a free kick straight into the keepers hands and Matt Winter nearly scored with a diving header from a Hunt cross but the Forest of Dean side went closest in the first half when a shot from Matthews was brilliantly cleared of the line by Graham Newhook to keep the score 0-0 at half time.
The 2nd half started with a flurry of goals and it was the home side who got the first when a pin point cross from Tim Hudson found the head of Winter whose looping header found the top corner ,it was 2-0 on 53 minutes when G.Newhook was fouled in the box and his brother Ryan converted the penalty.
It was 3-0 on 55 minutes when substitute Dave Davanzo's 30 yard pass put Winter one on one with the keeper and he calmly rolled the ball home from 20 yards for his second of the game.
Huntley pulled a goal back a minute later when Matthews turned on the edge of the box and blasted past Andy Herbert, Rovers then went straight up the other end and made it 4-1,Mills made a superb run down the wing and crossed for Winter who who tapped home for his hat-trick and 20th goal of the season.
On 65 minutes Huntley got their second goal when Davis hammered home from 25 yards leaving Herbert with no chance then once again Bourton went straight up the other end and this time it was Duncan Habbitts who tapped home from a Davanzo cross to make it the 7th goal in a remarkable 21 minutes.
Huntley scored their 3rd of the afternoon on 80 minutes after a goal mouth scramble when the ball eventually hit the Huntlley striker Jackson on the back and trickle over the line leaving Herbert wrong footed.
After a nervy 10 minutes Rovers finally sealed victory in stoppage time when stand in skipper Gary Clark hit a tremendous drive from 40 yards to make it 6-3,and score his first ever goal for Bourton in 220th appearance and seven years of trying.
This week Bourton make the long trip down the M5 to play Kingswood.
