First XI Match Reports
Saturday, 24th March 2007 ~ Northern Senior League
Longlevens 1-0 Bourton Rovers
Bourton travelled to Gloucester on Saturday without defender Anders Harvey and
midfielder Stuart Hughes meaning Matt Winter moving to centre half and Duncan
Habbitts getting the middle of the field role.
Rovers started the better of the teams and should of scored on 5 minutes when a
Winter free kick from 20 yards was parried by the keeper into the path of
Habbitts who somehow missed from 2 yards. Chris Mills then shot wide moments
later when through on goal and Kevin Hunt also shot wide when in a good
position, Rovers were dominating the game and the home side were struggling to
get out their own half but as a norm this season with the villagers it was
Longlevens who took the lead on 35 minutes with their first effort on goal.
A free kick was swung over and the Longlevens defender's header was to powerful
for Andy Herbert who could only parry the ball into the roof of the net.
The second half continued in the same vain with Rovers putting pressure on the home
side but they couldn't get the goal they deserved with Mills, Graham Newhook and
Kevin Hunt all going close the former missing several opportunities and in the
dying minutes a cross from the hardworking Mills found Mark Payne 5 yards out
but his bullet header was somehow saved Gordon Banks style by the home keeper
and leave Bourton pointless for the 2nd week running in a game in which they
should of won with ease and the 1st time they have failed to score this season, a
record going back 28 games.
