Lydbrook 2-2 Bourton Rovers

Bourton made the long journey to the Forest of Dean to play league leaders Lydbrook with Tim Hudson back in the team after missing last weeks match.  On a sodden pitch which was only just playable the home team started the brighter but Rovers restricted them to long range efforts which Andy Herbert dealt with well in the wet conditions.

The visitors had a few half chances to take the lead but Chris Mills,Keelan Gilbert and the outstanding Ryan Newhook all  shot over .  The Foresters did take the lead on 25 minutes when the home striker turned Gilbert and curled the ball into the top corner to leave Herbert helpless.  On 35 minutes Lydbrook were reduced to 10 men when their striker said something untoward to the referee and was rightly sent off.

In the second half Bourton had to reshuffle when centre half Anders Harvey limped of to be replaced by Mark Payne.  Rovers were now getting used to the mud bath and with the extra man were having most of the pressure but the home team held firm but with 15 mins left Rovers finally got the equalizer they deserved when R.Newhook played in Matt Winter who  fired home from 18 yards, but straight from the restart Lydbrook went up the other end and took the lead when Hudson was caught the wrong side of the home teams winger who crossed for his team mate to head home.  Bourton's spirit got them their leveller with just 4 minutes left when the inspirational Stuart Hughes burst through the home defence to be rugby tackled on the edge of the box and from the resulting free kick Dave Davanzo goal bound effort was handled by a Lydbrook defender and the ref duly pointed to the spot.   Winter kept his nerve  and  smashed  the ball past the keeper to make it 2-2 and score his 15th of the season.

Both teams could of won it in the dying seconds when Herbert was caught in no mans land only to see the ball bounce back off  the bar from a free kick and up the other end a cross by Kevin Hunt found Mills whose effort was bravely saved by the home custodian and from the rebound Winter's effort was blocked by a Forester defender but it was a well deserved point for Rovers when you take in the conditions and some of the tackling from the home team.

This Saturday Bourton have county cup duty when they entertain Slimbridge(2.00ko) from the division below who have won 16 out of 16 this season including Bourton in the semi final of the league cup.
